Project: It’s time to become an Ocean Hero

Protecting the ocean is vital in our battle against climate change, yet we still take it for granted. To encourage people to engage with this issue on a personal level, the ‘Ocean Heroes’ campaign asked social audiences to share their ‘ocean selfie’ to keep the oceans healthy - evoking happy memories of times spent by the sea and what it means to each of us. This was based on the insight that, for the majority of us, there is a photo featuring the ocean within the last 12 images on our instagram feeds.

The campaign focused on raising awareness on the need for improved ocean health, alongside a call to action to sign a petition, putting pressure on the UK government to change its marine policy at a key time. As part of this, we recruited high profile ambassadors Jamie Redknapp, Alesha Dixon and Laura Whitmore - along with a range of mid tier and micro influencers - to create buzz online, alongside a stunning motion graphic campaign launch film. Finally, we crafted a story for editorial media, focusing on the actions we can all take in our daily lives to become ocean heroes.
